Half a BILLION Facebook Users!

July 26, 2010  |  Facebook

You’ve probably heard by now that Facebook has hit the magic “half a billion” mark.  Hard to believe? Absolutely.   Is it true?  Astoundingly so.   The little idea that could — HAS.  It started out as a way for students at Harvard to connect with each other, and has now exploded into a bonafide phenomenon.   Yes, 500 million people on this planet use the social network every month.  In honour of the milestone, website “PC World” has come out with some great “fun facts” about FB.  Got a pen?  Write ‘em down…

1.  If Facebook were a country, it would be the third largest in the world after China and India.  (More…)

2.  There are more than 60 official languages in use on Facebook.  6-0.

3.  There are over one billion computers in use in the world today.  Pundits predict that Facebook will hit the 2 billion mark before the computer industry does… All  thanks to the fact that more than 150 million people currently access FB on their mobile devices.  As that grows, so will the numbers.

4.  Stats show 35.4% of North Americans log on to Facebook every month.  That makes them the leading FB users worldwide.

5.  Facebook is estimated to be worth between 22 and 25 billion dollars.  Its value is derived from the collection of massive amounts of data from its users.

There you have it, kids.  Half a billion and counting… as CEO Mark Zuckerberg continues to count the cash.  It just may be one of the greatest stories every told. ;-)
